Interstate 35 Lane Closures For Aug. 24-30, 2019

AUSTIN, TX — As they helpfully do each week, the Texas Department of Transportation released its weekly list of lane closures along Interstate 35, yielding a helpful primer for Austin drivers.

Why is this a useful primer, you ask? Because in knowing the areas along the artery undergoing work in advance, drivers can plot out alternative routes if needed to avoid potential congestion — thus reaching their destinations on time.

And this week starts with a doozy at the Stassney Lane bridge demolition site. The project is slated to kick off Friday night, with labyrinthine detour paths. We'll start there in presenting this week's list of I-35 lane closures for Aug. 24-30.

I-35 AT STASSNEY LANE BRIDGE DEMOLITION CLOSURES

Beginning at 11 p.m. through 9 a.m. on Friday night and 11 p.m. through 10 a.m. on Saturday night (Aug. 23-24), crews will close the north and southbound I-35 mainlanes between US 290/SH 71 and south of Stassney Lane. Drivers must exit southbound I-35 at Stassney Lane (exit 229) and will be able to re-enter I-35 just south of Stassney Lane at the temporary entrance ramp. Northbound traffic will be detoured to the frontage road through a temporary ramp just north of Nelms Drive and will be able to re-enter I-35 using the existing entrance ramp just south of US 290/SH 71.

I-35 FROM CORN HILL (BUD STOCKTON LOOP) TO FM 972

• North and southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane from FM 972 to Bud Stockton Loop

I-35 FROM RM 1431 TO FM 3406 (NORTHBOUND)

• Northbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane from FM 3406 (Old Settlers Boulevard) to RM 1431 (University Boulevard)

I-35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH (NORTHBOUND)

• Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from Hesters Crossing to US 79
  • Sunday, Aug. 25 through Monday, Aug. 26 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-35 AT PARMER LANE

• Southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane daily from Parmer Lane to Tech Ridge Boulevard
  • Monday, Aug. 26 through Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LANE TO US 290 EAST

• North and southbound I-35 mainlane and frontage road rolling closures from Rutherford Lane to US 183
