Interstate 35 Lane Closures For June 1-7, 2019

AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation has issued its weekly list of Interstate 35 lane closures for June 1-7. The list yields a handy primer for drivers in knowing ahead of time which areas to avoid where congestion might result.

MAJOR TRAFFIC SHIFT ON I-35 THIS WEEKEND

Beginning Friday, May 31 at 9 p.m. until Monday, June 3 at 5 a.m. drivers on I-35 will see a major traffic shift and lane reductions between Rundberg Lane and US 290 East in both directions of the I-35 main lanes.

Crews will temporarily reduce the I-35 mainlanes to two lanes in each direction and shift traffic to the northbound side of I-35 for the St. Johns Avenue bridge demolition. The northbound entrance ramp north of US 290 East and the northbound exit ramp to Rundberg Lane just north of US 183 will be closed. The southbound entrance ramp south of Rundberg Lane and the southbound US 183 to southbound I-35 flyover will also be closed.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternate routes, as major delays are expected.

ST. JOHNS AVENUE BRIDGE LONG-TERM CLOSURE

Crews have closed the St. Johns Avenue bridge over the I-35 main lanes. All traffic on St. Johns Avenue will turn right onto the I-35 frontage roads and utilize the non-signalized U-turns at US 183 or US 290 East to access St. Johns Avenue on the other side of I-35. Bicyclists and pedestrians will still be able to safely cross I-35 at St. Johns Avenue on a temporary walkway restricted to non-vehicular traffic. The reconstructed bridge is expected to reopen late summer 2019, weather permitting.

I-35 FROM CORN HILL (BUD STOCKTON LOOP) TO FM 972

• North and southbound I-35 frontage roads reduced to one lane daily from FM 972 to Bud Stockton Loop

I-35 AT FM 3406

• North and southbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from Texas Avenue to Steam Way
  • Tuesday, May 28 through Wednesday, June 5 from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m.
• North and southbound I-35 reduced to one lane at FM 3406
  • Wednesday, June 5 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH

• Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly between SH 45 North and US 79
  • Sunday, June 2 through Thursday, June 6 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LANE TO US 290 EAST

• North to southbound I-35 U-turn closed at US 183
  • Through Friday, June 7 until 9 p.m.
• St. Johns Avenue bridge closed at I-35
  • Through summer 2019
• Southbound I-35 closed from Rundberg Lane to US 290 East

I-35 AT POSEY ROAD

• Posey Road bridge closed at I-35

• Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from Posey Road to York Creek Road

I-35 MAINTENANCE PROJECTS

• Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane between 51st Street and 15th Street. The lower deck will be closed Sunday and Monday night and the upper deck and exit #234C will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday night.
