Interstate 35 Lane Closures For June 8-14

AUSTIN, TX — In terms of lane closures along Interstate 35, the biggie is between U.S. 290 East and Rundberg Lane, closed for the second consecutive weekend to accommodate bridge demolition and expected to create major traffic delays.

But there are other I-35 lane closures scheduled through the week as well. The Texas Department of Transportation has released its weekly list of those areas slated for work, yielding a helpful primer for motorists to know in advance areas of potential congestion they might want to avoid. The latest TxDot list of I-35 lane closures covers the period between June 8-14.

Let's start with that big one:

NORTHBOUND I-35 MAINLANES TO CLOSE BETWEEN US 290 EAST AND RUNDBERG LANE

Crews will temporarily close the northbound I-35 mainlanes on Saturday, June 8 from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. to demolish the St. Johns Avenue bridge and the north to southbound U-turn bridge over the northbound I-35 main lanes.

During the closure, northbound I-35 main lane traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at exit 239 to southbound US 183, and will re-enter I-35 near Rundberg Lane. The northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover, US 183 frontage roads under I-35, and the left southbound I-35 main lane between US 183 and St. Johns Avenue will also be closed during the demolition of the remainder of the bridges.

• North and southbound I-35 reduced to one lane from Hill Road to FM 487
  • Monday, June 10 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-35 FROM CORN HILL (BUD STOCKTON LOOP) TO FM 972

• North and southbound I-35 frontage roads reduced to one lane daily from FM 972 to Bud Stockton Loop
  • Until further notice

I-35 AT FM 3406

• Expect north and southbound I-35 frontage road closures nightly at FM 3406
  • Sunday, June 09 through Thursday, June 13 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• North and southbound I-35 left lane closed nightly at FM 3406
  • Monday, June 10 through Wednesday, June 12 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• North and southbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly at FM 3406
  • Wednesday, June 12 through Friday, June 14 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

I-35 FROM US 79 TO SH 45 NORTH

• Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from Hesters Crossing to the US 79 exit ramp
  • Sunday, June 9 through Friday, June 14 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• Southbound I-35 frontage road right turn lane closed daily at Stassney Lane
  • Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

I-35 FROM RUNDBERG LANE TO US 290 EAST

• St. Johns Avenue bridge closed at I-35
  • Until further notice
• Northbound I-35 left lane closed nightly from US 290 East to St. Johns Avenue
  • Sunday, June 9 through Friday, June 14 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• Northbound I-35 frontage road closed nightly from La Posada Drive to St. Johns Avenue

• Northbound I-35 entrance ramp closed at US 290 East

• Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane from US 183 to St. Johns Avenue

• Southbound I-35 reduced to one lane nightly from Barwood Park to US 183. The entrance ramp near Powell Lane will also be closed.

I-35 AT OLTORF STREET

• Southbound I-35 right lane closed between Oltorf Street and US 290 East

• Watch for flaggers daily on southbound I-35 frontage road from Woodland Avenue to Oltorf Street
  • Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 13 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
• Expect north and southbound frontage road closures nightly at Oltorf Street
  • Monday, June 10 through Wednesday, June 12 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
• Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane from Woodward Street to Oltorf Street. Exit #232 and following entrance ramp will also be closed.
  • Monday, June 10 through Tuesday, June 11 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• Northbound I-35 reduced to one lane between Woodward Street and Oltorf Street
  • Tuesday, June 11 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.
• Southbound I-35 left lane closed between Woodward Street and Oltorf Street

I-35 FROM STASSNEY LANE TO WILLIAM CANNON DRIVE

• Southbound I-35 frontage road reduced to one lane between William Cannon Drive and Foremost Drive

• Northbound I-35 frontage road right lane closed at William Cannon Drive
