Japanese Barbecue Restaurant Coming To East Austin
Gyu-Kaku will serve up a variety of barbecue dishes guests' prepare themselves in small grills embedded in their tables.
EAST AUSTIN, TX — The Japanese barbecue chain Gyu-Kaku is opening its first restaurant in Austin at the mixed-use development dubbed Plaza Saltillo, according to a published report.
The site at 901 E. 5th St. is expected to open in 2020, Eater Austin reported. The cuisine will center on yakiniku (Japanese for grilled meat) featuring personal charcoal grills embedded in guests' tables to cok various meats and vegetables before dipping them in tare, a thick and sweet soy sauce, as the report described.
Cook-it-yourself meats are available a la carte or in prepared courses, according to the report. From 21-day aged Angus shirt steaks to kalbi short ribs, the eatery will offer a wide array of menu items. The restaurant also will offer ramen, noodles, rices soups and a variety of appetizers.
