Johnny Manziel Investigated After Altercation With Girlfriend

It's the second such incident for the former Texas A&M Heisman trophy winner in four months.

Police are investigating an alleged altercation between athlete Johnny Manziel and his girlfriend in Fort Worth, law enforcement officials said.

In a press release issued by the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to the Berkeley Apartments building in the 2100 block of Park Hill Drive at 2 a.m. Saturday morning to investigate a report of a possible assault.

“Upon arrival, officers did not locate the caller but did make contact with a 23-year-old female who stated that she was involved in a disturbance with her ex-boyfriend earlier in the evening in Dallas,” police wrote.

Because the complainant was uncooperative, police weren’t able to determine a crime scene jurisdiction, the press advisory conveys.

As a result, Dallas police were also alerted a crime might have been committed in that city in connection with the incident, according to Fort Worth law enforcement officials.

The unidentified woman subsequently told police she was concerned about Manziel’s welfare, prompting police to try to reach him by phone, at various locations and even from the air through use of a police helicopter, according to details in the press advisory.

Officers ultimately determined Manziel was safe, and called off the search for him.

The website cleveland.com reports Fort Worth police confirmed Manziel has not been formally charged with any offense.

“He was not arrested,” Fort Worth police spokesman Tracy Knight wrote in an email. “An information report was completed regarding and altercation between Manziel and his girlfriend. We are working on gathering information.

This marks the second time in recent months police have investigated the former Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M for an altercation with a girlfriend.

Last October, he was investigated by Ohio police after a woman reported he had beat her. Colleen Crowley, the woman who made the previous accusation, was intoxicated, according to police.

Manziel was not arrested as a result of the October incident, and the NFL ultimately cleared him of domestic abuse stemming from the altercation.

ESPN notes it’s been a tumultuous past few months for the 23-year-old quarterback.

Days after being named the Browns’ starter in November, a video surfaced of him holding a bottle at an Austin nightclub during the team’s bye week. The following day, he was demoted to third-string quarterback for the next game.

A month after that, he sat out the team’s season finale after sustaining a concussion amid reports he had been seen at a Las Vegas casino that weekend.

Manziel spent 10 weeks in treatment for undisclosed reasons prior to this season, ESPN reports.
