Lake Travis Drowining Victim Identified
Micheal Ihekwoaba, 23, of Austin was pronounced dead nearly two hours after he failed to resurface at Muleshoe Bend Primitive Area.
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — The Travis County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday identified the swimmer whose body was recovered after he failed to resurface after going underwater at Lake Travis over the weekend.
The incident dates to Sunday, when deputies responded to a report of a distressed swimmer who failed to resurface at around 3:50 p.m. after going underwater at the Muleshoe Bend Primitive Area portion of Lake Travis, officials said in a news release. In addition to the sheriff's office, Travis County Parks, the Pedernales Fire Department and Starflight crews participated in rescue efforts which ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Just before 4:30 p.m., officials said, rescue efforts shifted to recovery. At 5:18 p.m., the swimmer's body was recovered after fire department crews detected it via sonar in water that was between seven and eight feet in depth, according to the sheriff's office.

The drowining victim was identified as Micheal Ihekwoaba, 23, of Austin. He was pronounced dead two minutes after his body was recovered, according to the sheriff's office. An investigation into the cause and manner of death is being conducted by the sheriff's office and Travis County medical examiner, according to the news release.
