¡Las Sandinistas! Austin Premiere Celebrates The Power Of Women
Documentary making its world premiere locally showcases extraordinary and previously untold story of Nicaraguan woman warriors

AUSTIN, TX — In the wake of International Women's Day comes a film making its world premiere in Austin that showcases female resilience, strength and courage in its most dramatic form.
The documentary ¡Las Sandinistas! has its world premiere at SXSW this Monday, celebrating the extraordinary and previously untold story of a group of women warriors and social revolutionaries who fought in Nicaragua's Sandinista Revolution — and their continuing struggle for justice today.
¡Las Sandinistas! weaves contemporary interviews with these legendary women, archival footage, and a vibrant soundtrack to trace their historic contributions, its filmmakers described."It documents a magical moment in world history when thousands of female rebel fighters transformed society's definition of womanhood and leadership before facing renewed marginalization as their own stories were erased from history books," the documentary's makers added.

Thirty-five years later, these same women featured in the doc are fighting to reclaim history and are once again leading popular movements for equality and democracy.
Directed by Jenny Murray, and produced by Sarah Winshall (Clara's Ghost, Men Don't Whisper), this is the first feature film doc to celebrate the incredible lives and contributions of these brave, inspiring women, filmmakers said.
