Local EMS Crew Recognized for Outstanding Patient Care

"Medic of the Quarter" awarded to three crew members for saving a heart attack patient's life

National Emergency Medical Services Week recognizes and celebrates the dedicated and talented EMS staff who provide emergency medical services to our communities. EMS Week brings the EMS community together and acknowledges the accomplishments of EMTs and paramedics, while building awareness of their important role in the communities where they live and work.

Recently, the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) crew of Freddie Garcia, Christopher Nguyen and Jordan Brindley were awarded the “Medic of the Quarter” for outstanding patient care. This award is given quarterly to those who provide outstanding patient care and exemplify what it means to be a healthcare professional. And in this case, the STEMI team nominated this crew for their outstanding care and quick response. STEMI stands for ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction and means a heart attack with blocked coronary artery.

The EMS crew was dispatched to a patient who was in cardiac arrest. They quickly noted it was STEMI and transported the patient to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin for care. Amazingly, the patient was discharged just three days later and is recovering.
