'Lock Out' Mode Lifted At Three East Austin Schools
Austin ISD police took measures to safeguard Barbara Jordan Elementary, Garcia and Overton elementary schools amid nearby police activity.
AUSTIN, TX — Three East Austin schools were briefly placed under a "lock out" mode Tuesday afternoon amid nearby police activity before operations resumed as normal.
Barbara Jordan Elementary School, Garcia Middle School and Overton Elementary School were placed on lock out at around 3 p.m., Austin ISD Police Chief Ashley Gonzalez wrote on Twitter. About a half hour later, the chief updated to say the action was lifted after a suspect was taken into custody.
"Austin police has taken an individual into custody," Gonzalez wrote. "Area deemed safe. Lock-out has been lifted. All schools are resuming normal activities."
