Shelley Pruett, nurse supervisor in radiology at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, has had connections to Ascension Seton for a long time. Prior to working as a nurse, Shelley did medical billing for Ascension Seton hospitals in the mid-nineties. She had always wanted to be a nurse, but when she was first accepted to nursing school, she found out she was pregnant. Four years later, a coworker encouraged her to go back to school to fulfill her dream.
She started as a nurse at Brackenridge Hospital in 2004.
“I did my nursing rotations in Austin, and of all the hospitals I visited, Brackenridge felt like home,” said Shelley.
After some time as a nurse, she realized her true love was working in the emergency department, where she spent almost 14 years. Shelley says working in the ED offered a lot of rewarding moments.
“I really appreciated being recognized by my patients,” said Shelley. “Our team in the ED always worked hard to provide a great patient experience.”
In 2020, Shelley moved to radiology. Today, her daughter is following in her footsteps by pursuing a career in healthcare.
“Ascension Seton is the best place to work. We are treated well and really work together as a team.” said Shelley.
