Man Arrested After Fatal Fight In Downtown Austin
Robert Batiste, 63, was involved in a deadly confrontation along 5th Street on July 4 that left a man dead.

AUSTIN, TX — Police have charged a man with manslaughter in the death of a man with whom he had a violent confrontation in downtown Austin on Thursday.
The July 4 incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. along the 100 block of East 5th Street. Police received a report of a disturbance between two homeless men, and found an unidentified what male unconscious on the street. The victim was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m., according to a police advisory.
Police arrested Robert Batiste, 63, and charged him with manslaughter. A witness recorded video of the violent confrontation, helping lead police to arrest Batiste. Police did not specify the manner of death, noting that the Travis County Medical Examiner in in the process of conducting an autopsy.
