Here are the top stories in Austin today:
1) A San Marcos man is charged with "reckless driving" on Texas State Capitol grounds. On Wednesday, Sept. 28 at around 10 p.m., DPS personnel witnessed an unauthorized vehicle enter the south side of the Capitol grounds. DPS reported that the driver had driven through an iron gate, causing damage near the east exit. Photos from the scene show a broken perimeter fence, glass, a smashed sign and tire tracks across the Capitol lawn. KVUE has more on this developing story.
2) Austin Energy sends crews of line workers and support personnel to Florida to assist with hurricane relief. Over 1 million people were without power on Wednesday as Hurricane Ian made landfall, and Austin Energy crew members were sent to help with restoration efforts. KLBJ reports that the Austin Energy team is equipped with six bucket trucks, three digging derricks and 12 support vehicles to help restore power to affected communities. 3) Austin Police Department reports that the active SWAT incident in North Austin has ended and the suspect is in custody. APD's SWAT team was called out Thursday morning to North Austin in response to a family violence call. The situation was cleared and the suspect was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. CBS Austin has more on this story.
4) The Austin Film Festival has officially published its 2022 schedule! The 29th annual event spans eight nights (October 21-28) with Q&A sessions, competitions and world premieres. Head to the Austin Film Festival's website to learn how you can snag passes.
