Man Charged With Intoxication Manslaughter In Fatal Austin Crash

AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter following a crash in East Austin earlier this month that left a passenger dead, police said Tuesday.
The incident dates to August 15 just before 11 p.m. along the 8500 block of FM 969 when a white, 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Decker Lane when the driver proceeded through a green light before losing control of the truck.
The vehicle crashed through thick underbrush and trees, knocked down a fence and came to rest facing northbound, according to police. Witnesses at the scene assisted in getting the driver and passenger in the rear seat outside of the mangled vehicle, police said.

The passenger on the rear driver's side of the vehicle, Alfonso Sanchez Angeles, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the advisory. The other passenger, police added, was treated and released.
The driver, Juan Manuel Aboyles-Garcia, 27, was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment before being arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said.

The incident marked Austin’s 52nd fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 57 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 49 traffic fatalities.
