NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A motorcyclist died and another driver was jailed for drunk driving following a traffic crash in North Austin this week, police said.

The collision occurred on Monday, Jan. 27, just before 9:30 p.m. along the 1600 block of West Howard Lane. A preliminary police investigation showed that a motorcyclist was approaching the stretch of roadway on his black, 2016 Yamaha motorcycle from the east when he lost control just prior to the intersection with Metric Boulevard.

The man then slid into the path of a white, 2016 Ford Explorer traveling west as it turned southbound on Metric Boulevard, police said. The impact of the crash caused the Ford Explorer to roll on its side.

The motorcyclist, 25-year-old Mitchell Jacob Levy, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Explorer, Lisa Lene Aiken, was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries before being arrested for driving while intoxicated. Police noted the woman's level of intoxication likely was not a contributing factor in the crash.

The incident brings to nine the number of fatal traffic crashes in Austin so far this year, police said. During last year's comparable period, police noted there were four traffic fatalities.
