NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the truck driver killed in a North Austin traffic wreck over the weekend.
Police responded to a service road along the 8200 block of Research Boulevard on Friday, April 26, just after 8 p.m. amid reports of a wreck. According to a preliminary police investigation, a red, 2013 Ford F-150 truck driven by Leon Rogelio Andres Salmeron, 23, was traveling southbound when the driver of a gray, 2005 Honda Accord failed to yield the right of way from a private drive while exiting the Crestview Apartments.
The two vehicles collided, causing the truck to strike a concrete support column. Salmeron was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda fled the scene, according to police. Once identified, the driver of the Honda faces a charge of failure to stop and render aid, officials added.
