From July 21:
AUSTIN, TX -- A man is dead after a 30-foot fall from a school roof Thursday morning.
Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a construction worker who was helping to replace the roof at West Cypress Hills Elementary at 6112 Cypress Ranch Blvd., a school in the western portion of the county that is part of the Lake Travis ISD.
The man has not been identified pending notification of his family. He worked for Taylor Lightning Protection, according to school district officials.
Superintendent of Schools for the Lake Travis ISD Brad Lancaster conveyed condolences to the victim's family in a statement posted on the district website apprising parents of the tragedy.
"It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you that a contractor who was working on our roof replacement project at West Cypress Hills Elementary School fell to his death this morning," Lancaster said. "While he was not a school district employee, our grief is no less; this was a horrible and tragic event."
Lancaster explained in the letter that the school's roof was being replaced after being damaged by hail last year. School officials took advantage of the summer period to commission the repair work given the absence of students and staff.
"On behalf of the entire Lake Travis ISD family, I extend my sincere condolences to this gentleman’s family and ask that you please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
