Man Found Dead On Texas Capitol Grounds

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson told Patch the body was discovered by a security guard early Monday morning.

AUSTIN, TX — A body was found on grounds of the state Capitol early Monday morning, law enforcement officials confirmed.

Patch reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety to confirm details, learning that a Texas Workforce Commission security guard discovered the body of a dead man near the south entrance of the agency's building at 101 E. 15th St.

After the discovery, Texas Department of Public Safety, special agents and Austin-Travis County EMS medics responded to the scene, a spokesperson with the former agency told Patch via email in a response to inquiries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, the spokesperson said, and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The identity of the individual will not be released at this time, the spokesperson said, pending next of kin has not been notified.

"The Texas Rangers are investigating," the spokesperson told Patch, "and as this is an ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time."
