Man Sentenced To Prison For Killing Man Seeking To Buy Gun
Devin Carmona, 21, draws 30-year term after pleading guilty to killing Adam Shorter, 19, who was trying to buy a gun outside The Domain.
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — A man recently was sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment after pleading guilty to murder in the killing of a man who had met him to purchase a gun.
Devin Carmona, 21, will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least one-half of his 30-year sentence, the Travis County District Attorney's Office said in a press advisory.
The case arose out of a robbery Carmona and his co-conspirators planned that resulted in the death of Adam Shorter, 19, in March 2018, the DA's office said in a press advisory released on Monday. The victim met Carmona outside Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Domain in order to buy a gun, prosecutors detailed.

After Carmona entered the back seat of the victim’s car, he robbed the victim at gunpoint before shooting him seconds later in front of the victim’s 17-year-old girlfriend who had accompanied him, prosecutors said. The victim died at the hospital soon afterward.
One of Carmona’s co-defendants, Steven Gaige Hammock, also pleaded guilty on Friday to an aggravated robbery charge. As part of a negotiated plea, Hammock was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Like Carmona, Hammock will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least one-half of his sentence, the DA's office noted.
