Man's Death At Waller Creek Likely Drug-Related, Austin Police Say

Daniel W. Michael, 43, was found dead in Waller Creek dressed in hospital-issued gown after leaving facility against medical advice.

AUSTIN, TX — The dead man found in Waller Creek this weekend likely died of drug-related causes, police said Monday.

Police have identified the man as Daniel W. Michael, 43, according to Fox 7. He was wearing a hospital gown issued by University Medical Center Brackenridge after leaving the facility against doctors' medical advice, the news station reported.

The are along Red River in downtown Austin has become a haven for junkies, even as officials try to rid users from congregating there for their fixes. On Monday morning, downtown patrol officers arrested a man on the same spot where the body was found on Sunday, Fox 7 reported. And in April, a woman's body was discovered in the creek along 4th Street, although the cause of her death is still unknown, according to Fox 7.
