Marching Toward A Cure Is Nothing New For Austin-Based EDAP

Running team HIFU Fighters ran for a good cause recently in promoting prostate cancer awareness during recent run/walk.

EDAP'S running team, The HIFU Fighters, were delighted to participate in Zero's run/walk for prostate cancer on Saturday October 27th. EDAP employees devote their lives to helping men with prostate disease.

Typically when men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, they are given three options: they can monitor the cancer (active surveillance), or remove the prostate altogether and/or undergo radiation. The last two come with a high risk of incontinence and impotence. EDAP’s medical technology, Focal One, lets urologists perform a non-invasive, prostate procedure called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). Urologists across the country are using HIFU to treat men with localized prostate cancer. HIFU destroys diseased prostate tissue, while leaving the prostate intact and preserving healthy tissue and nerves bundles that control urologic and sexual function. This reduces the chances for incontinence and impotence, while preserving men’s quality of life. What is also positive about HIFU, unlike traditional therapies, is that if the cancer ever returns, the patient still has the same range of options he had when he was originally diagnosed.
