🌱 Mayor-Elect's Priorities + Kid-Friendly Festivities + Cool Front
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

Good morning and happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a beautiful weekend and wrapped up any last-minute holiday shopping (wishful thinking, huh?). I'm back with your new edition of the Austin Daily which includes the most important things happening locally.
Settle in while we cover:
- Austin's Mayor-Elect discusses his Day 1 priorities.
- Temps are dropping even further later this week – brr!!!
- The Longhorn Basketball interim head coach leads the team to another win.
- A host of kid-friendly, holiday activities this week!
But first, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy. High: 57 Low: 44.
Here are the top stories today in Austin:
1) Austin's Mayor-Elect zeroes in on the city's affordability issues. While detailing his day one priorities with Inside Texas Politics, Mayor-Elect Watson shared that his first order of business is to reduce the fees required to build new housing and tackle skyrocketing childcare costs. Learn more about Watson's initial plans here at KVUE.
2) Austin fans gathered at bars and pubs around town to watch Argentina win the 2022 World Cup! The Statesman captured photos as fans watched the intense, emotional rollercoaster of a match on Sunday afternoon – check them out!
3) Get your layers ready, neighbors – temps are expected to continue to drop later this week. KVUE reports: "Several hard freezes are likely for Central Texas starting Friday morning, and even afternoon temperatures could struggle to get out of the 30s. Ahead of this, it's a good idea to start thinking about your plan to protect the four Ps: people, pets, plants and pipes." Head over to KVUE to review the full weather report for the week.
4) Longhorn Basketball is now 2-0 under interim head coach Rodney Terry after a win over Stanford. Texas forced 18 turnovers and held off a second-half rally by Stanford to win big in Dallas. KXAN has a full recap of the game here.
5) Yolanda Jaimes disappeared from her home in June, and her body was found in a field four days later. Her husband, Jose Villa-Denova, has officially been charged with her murder. Learn more about this heartbreaking case here at FOX 7 Austin.
