🌱 Mayoral Debate Ahead Of Runoffs + Thanksgiving Dining Options 🥧

Hello, everyone! Happy Thanksgiving! As the old adage says: "May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey plump, may your potatoes and gravy have nary a lump. May your yams be delicious, and your pies take the prize, and may your Thanksgiving dinner stay off your thighs."

Before you're off for the day, I've got the most important news and community updates. Settle in while we cover:

  • Operation Turkey was in full swing yesterday!
  • KXAN will host a mayoral debate ahead of the runoff election.
  • A host of delicious, Thanksgiving dining options across town.

But first, today's weather:

Rain at times. High: 65 Low: 54.

Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) An accident near West Slaughter Lane and Wolftrap Drive left a teenager dead. Officials say the accident took place on Nov. 23 around 8:10 p.m., and the victim died on the scene shortly after medics arrived. KVUE has more on this tragic story.

2) Yesterday, hundreds of volunteers gathered early to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for more than 10,000 community members as part of its annual "Operation Turkey" initiative. Volunteers spent the day smoking and prepping over 300 turkeys – WOW! Head over to FOX 7 Austin to learn more about Operation Turkey's community initiatives.

3) Have a question for the Austin mayoral candidates? Now is your chance to have them addressed! On Dec. 1, KXAN is hosting a mayoral debate for Celia Israel and Kirk Watson, who are headed toward a runoff election. KXAN has more on how to submit your topics and questions here – check it out.

4) APD is investigating a missing 34-year-old. KXAN reports: "Justin Haden, 34, has been missing since Nov. 1. The Austin Police Department said in a press release he was last seen near his apartment in north Austin. Haden's now presumed dead after a search of his apartment." The private investigator on this case suggested to APD that a violent crime had been committed in Haden's apartment. According to the search warrant, surveillance cameras show that Haden was with another man, identified as Gavin Roberts, 26, the day he was last seen, the warrant states.
