Also: Two winning tickets worth ab estimated $4 million were sold in the Houston area. One of the tickets was sold in Humble at a liquor store on FM 1960 east, while the second was sold at a convenience store in Baytown. One of the tickets matched all five numbers for a $1 million prize, while another matched all five numbers plus the multiplier for a $3 million prize.

AUSTIN, TX — Because nobody matched the winning numbers at the last Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday, the jackpot has grown to a mind-numbing $450 million, or a cash payout option of $281 million. On Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, another drawing took place among a frenzy of interest among players.

The Mega Millions winning numbers for Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, are: 28-30-39-59-70 and Gold Mega Ball 10.

To play, five number from 1 to 70 are selected along with a Mega Ball number from 1 to 25. Players have an overall chance of winning at prize of a 1 in 24 odds. Players can add the Megaplier option for an extra $1 per play to increase non-jackpot prizes by up to five times.

Introduced as The Big Game in August 1996, Mega Millions is one of the world's biggest and most popular lottery games. By May 2002, the name was changed to Mega Millions and is played in 46 states. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was a $656 million prize split by three winners in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland in 2012.

The giant jackpot mirrors the gigantic proportions of the Powerball jackpot, which also hasn't seen a winner after successive drawings. That jackpot has now grown to an astounding $570 million, with the next drawing scheduled to take place this Saturday, Jan. 6.
