FBI Joins In Search For Missing Austin Woman, Baby

Heidi Broussard, 33, and her 3-week-old daughter were last seen at Cowan Elementary School before disappearing, police said.

AUSTIN, TX — Police continue to search for a woman and her infant who both went missing four days ago, officials said on Monday.

Heidi Broussard, 33, and her 3-week-old daughter, Margot Carey, were last seen at Cowan Elementary Shool, 2817 Kentish Dr., on Thursday, Dec. 12, police said in a previous advisory. Law enforcement officials staged a press conference on Monday saying the case was still "very active" and part of an ongoing investigation.

"Detectives are working the case and are not able to step away at this time to provide on-camera interviews," officials said in a subsequent email. Law enforcement officials have scheduled a press conference on Tuesday, Dec. 17,at police headquarters to provide updates on their investigation. "If any new information becomes available, we will provide it at that time," police wrote in an email.

Despite the number of tips that have been received in the case, police have no person of interest in the case nor do they know if the woman left of her own volition or disappeared under a nefarious nature, Herries said. He asked for additional tips to be sent directly to the police department rather than posting them on social media forums.

"We have asked for the help of the FBI," Austin Police Department detective Brad Herries said at a 1 p.m. press conference on Tuesday, ticking off a number agencies that are assisting in the search.

"This case is unique in that we don't have a person of interest right now," Herries continued. "We're exploring every avenue that we have and every possibility. To be perfectly honest, everything is possible right now. That's why we need the public's help."

Herries said police believe the mother and her daughter are still alive, but would not elaborate.

Despite the lack of leads, Herries thanked the community for the numerous tips received: "I want to thank the comm for tips we have received from all diff mediums and all different sources," he said. Tips can be submitted to the Austin Police Department at (512) 974.5250.

On Wednesday, police established a designated tip line number for the case. Anyone with information should call (512) 974-5100.

While they continue their investigation, detectives urge anyone who sees the pair to call 9-1-1 immediately. Both are believed to have returned to their home near West William Cannon and South First Street after last being seen at the school, police said.

The woman is described as being five feet, three inches in height and weighs 150 pounds. She has long dark hair with highlights. It was unknown what she was last seen wearing. The infant is seven pounds, seven ounces, and 22 inches long. The garments she wore when she was last seen also is unknown.

Police have released photos of the woman and infant in the hopes someone might recognize them and alert police as to their whereabouts.
