Here are the top stories in Austin today:
1) Local health officials expand eligibility for the monkeypox vaccine. As of Monday, Austinites at risk of contracting monkeypox are now eligible for the vaccine. The vaccine was previously limited to individuals directly exposed to the virus or diagnosed with the disease. Dr. Christina Madison with Wellness Equity Alliance says: "We are really just classifying anyone at risk. That includes anyone who has multiple sex partners, anyone with anonymous sex partners, anyone who may have been to an event — like a large rave or concert — who may have come in contact with somebody who could have monkeypox." Head to KUT to learn where to get a free monkeypox vaccine appointment.
2) It's election season in Central Texas and you may be asking: How do you register to vote? How do you check your registration status? What do you need to vote? The Austin American-Statesman/subscription has put together a guide with everything you need to know to register to vote and cast your ballot in Texas – check it out!
3) Feel good news: The city's Food Justice program awarded $75,000 in grants to organizations leading transformative change in Austin's food system. 25 local organizations received $3,000 to help reduce food injustice and expand our community's access to food/meals. Head to KVUE to learn more about this initiative and which organizations were selected.
4) Tiffany Jackson, an All-American for the Texas Longhorns and the No. 5 pick in the 2007 WNBA draft, died after a battle with breast cancer. Jackson was only 37 years old. KXAN has more on Jackson's life and legacy.
