Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic Opens In Central Austin

AUSTIN, TX — Emancipet, a nonprofit veterinary clinic, celebrated the grand opening of their Central Austin site on Thursday.

The ribbon-cutting at 1030 Norwood Park Blvd. was attended by more than 70 elected officials, donors and community leaders. The nonprofit describes its mission as one to provide high-quality veterinarian care affordable and accessible to all pet owners.

“This new clinic represents the future of Emancipet,” says CEO Amy Mills. “This is our first purpose-built clinic; the largest, most efficient, and offering the most amenities for our clients. It will be a model for all of our new clinics going forward.”

Emancipet served nearly 100,000 pets in 2017, providing quality veterinary care to families regardless of their ability to pay, ensuring that pets can stay with the people who love them, officials said in a press advisory.

The new clinic is Emancipet’s largest to date at 3,900 square feet. It includes six exam rooms, a three-table surgical suite, separate entrances to keep healthy and sick animals separate, and full digital X-ray, dental X-ray, and blood analysis machines. The clinic was designed with Emancipet’s unique set of service offerings in mind, and will also serve as Emancipet’s headquarters for medical training and development of new services.

Price points for various Emancipet services buttresses their claims of affordability, with wellness exams priced at $5 and vaccinations $15. A premium placed on accessibility is illustrated with walk-ins welcome for flea/heartworm prevention and microchipping.

"Services currently available by appointment include specialized surgeries like tumor removals and heartworm treatment at fixed prices with no surprise charges," officials noted. "Additional services that will be offered soon include spay/neuter surgeries (already available at other locations); treatments for skin and ears; dentals; and other life-saving treatments."

Located at 1030 Norwood Park Blvd. Suite 316, near the Goodwill and Walmart at Hwy. 183 and IH35, the new Emancipet clinic is its third in the Austin area, replacing the Cameron Road location that formerly housed Animal Trustees of Austin before the two organizations merged in 2016, officials said.

To celebrate the grand opening, Emancipet clients through Friday, Jan. 19, can spin a prize wheel for a chance to win Emancipet T-shirts, leashes, collars and other pet-related items.

Emancipet also operates clinics in East Austin and in Pflugerville, plus a mobile clinic. Its other Texas locations are in Killeen, and in Houston; and Emancipet opened its first out-of-state clinic in Philadelphia last year.

Officials noted the new Emancipet Central Austin was made possible in part by financial contributions and in-kind donations. Major donors include: The Juried Family Foundation, Andrew Delaney Foundation, The David W. Leonard Fund of the Austin Community Foundation, MARK Foundation, Angela Dorsey and Jason Rhode, Gay and Lee Gaddis, Jamie Barshop, and Thurman Case.

Morver, major in-kind donations to design, build, and outfit the clinic saved more than $350,000, according to the clinic's officials. Major in-kind donors include: JLL, Harvey Cleary, Building Image Group, Aptus Engineering, and Lauckgroup.

Emancipet Central Austin is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with healthy pet services available on a walk-in basis and other services by appointment, which can be made online at Emancipet.org or by calling 512-587-7729.
