Austin Officer Involved In Shooting Released From Hospital [UPDATE]

Officer Armando Perez shot in abdomen during scuffle with burglary suspect Darrin Andrew Martin, later killed.

AUSTIN, TX -- The police officer shot and injured this past Sunday before killing a burglary suspect has been released from the hospital, a union representative said.

Armando Perez, the injured officer, was released Monday night, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Ken Cassaday, president of the Austin Police Association, made the announcement.

The suspect has been identified as Darrin Andrew Martin, 25.  Police had waited to immediately release his name, pending notification of his death to family members.

According to Perez, the suspect pulled out a gun as the officer was trying to restrain him. This resulted in the police officer being shot in the abdomen before Perez returned fire, killing the suspect.
