Patika Celebrates Five Years In South Austin
From humble beginnings as downtown coffee cart, cult-favorite shop to celebrate big with party featuring swag, complimentary affogatos.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — It's been five years since Patika opened in 2014, and South Lamar has been abuzz ever since. To celebrate the milestone, the cult-favorite coffee shop is throwing a bash later this month.
Owned by Austinites Andy Wigginton and Nick Krupa, this refuge for the caffeinated masses will be staging a celebration on Friday, Oct. 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The five-year anniversary party will feature complimentary bites from the newly launched Patika Catering with complimentary affogatos and swag from its new sister craft coffee retail roaster, Superthing Coffee Roasters, complimentary beer and wine, and entertainment including live music, giveaways, and a photo booth.
Side note: If you don't know what an affogato is, you may not be hip enough to attend (but, of course, are still welcome). For the uninitiated, an affogato (Italian for "drowned") is an Italian coffee-based dessert that usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped or "drowned" with a shot of hot espresso. Capisce?

“We've loved being part of the South Austin community and are so grateful for the amazing community that's supported us these past five years.," Krupa said in a press advisory. "Getting to know our regulars, their families, and new folks every day has reinforced for us why we've loved the coffee and cafe world so much. And we're super excited to be back downtown with our luncheonette space, across the street from where it all started in that little trailer almost 10 years ago.”
From Patika’s beginnings as a coffee cart in downtown Austin in 2010, owners Wigginton and Krupa founded their first brick and mortar at 2159 S Lamar in 2014 and grew to recently open a downtown Luncheonette at 100 Congress Ave. in July 2019, serving a daily menu of craft coffee, breakfast, and lunch offerings. The expansion to the Luncheonette also includes the launch of Patika Catering, delivering house-made pastries, family-style breakfasts, specialty coffee service, buffet-style meals, box lunches, and happy hour snacks throughout the Austin area, officials noted.
In addition to Patika’s expansion to a downtown space and catering, the company has also launched a sister brand focused on retail craft coffee roasting, Superthing Coffee Roasters. Roasters currently source from small, sustainable farmers in Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Kenya to obtain the best coffee beans in the world, with expanded offerings coming monthly.
Superthing roasts their beans locally and supplies wholesale clients as well as restaurant accounts in the Austin area, officials made a point to note. Superthing coffee is currently served at Olamaie, Flitch Coffee, Machine Head Coffee, Primo Coffee, and Jester King Brewery.
