Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Street, Austin Police Say

On Nov. 21, police said James Lee Beasley​, 55, died while attempting to cross the 800 block of E. William Cannon Drive​.

AUSTIN, TX - The Austin Police Department continues to investigate a traffic fatality that recently left one person dead. On Nov. 21, police said James Lee Beasley, 55, was struck and killed while attempting to cross the 800 block of E. William Cannon Drive.

As Beasley was walking in an area of the road lacking a crosswalk, officers said that he was hit by a gold, 2006 Mercury Mariner traveling westbound on E. William Cannon that was in the middle of a signaled lane change.

The section of the roadway where Beasley attempted to cross is heavily congested with vehicular traffic, police noted.

"There is no indication that driver impairment, speed, lighting conditions, or weather/road conditions played a factor," the Austin Police Department said in a news release.

First responders from the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but Beasley died on scene at approximately 7:38 p.m.
