Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Bus At UT-Austin Campus (Updated)

Described only as an adult male, victim died after crash with bus at San Jacinto Boulevard at 23rd Street just past 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a city bus at the University of Texas at Austin campus on Monday night, medics confirmed.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the collision occurred at San Jacinto Boulevard and 23rd Street just after 10:30 p.m. The site of the incident is near the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Early Tuesday morning, UT Police Chief David Carter told reporters the collision occurred along the 2200 block of San Jacinto Boulevard. Both the bicyclist and Capital Metro bus were traveling northbound when the accident occurred

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the adult male victim was reportedly pinned under the bus after being struck. He was dead at the scene by the time medics arrived. After Carter's press briefing, campus police officials said the man killed was not affiliated with UT-Austin.

Carter said the victim will remain unidentified until his family members were notified of his death. He noted eight or nine passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash, but no other injuries were reported.

CapMetro officials said via Twitter a team from the transit agency had been dispatched to the scene to assist in the investigation. Carter further details would be released later Tuesday morning. Patch will update when more information is made available.
