AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the man who died in a traffic accident late last month.
The incident occurred on Friday, Sept. 27, just before 11:30 a.m. at East Parmer Lane and Dessau Road. A preliminary police investigation revealed that a 2003 orange Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck was traveling eastbound at the intersection at a high rate of speed. Meanwhile, a 2019 white Hyundai Elantra was turning left from East Parmer Lane onto southbound Dessau Road with a protected green turn signal, police said in a press advisory.
The Avalanche ran the red light, striking the Elantra. The impact caused the Avalanche to strike a metal pole on the southeast corner of the intersection, police said. The driver of the Avalanche, identified as Jessie Jay Woosley, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger in the other vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As police continue their investigation, they urge anyone with information regarding this case to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at (512) 974-4424. Tips also can be submitted by downloading Austin PD’s free mobile app on iPhone and Android.
The incident marked Austin’s 61st fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 63 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 52 fatal traffic crashes and 53 traffic fatalities.
