Police Respond To Bank Robbery Near UT-Austin Campus

Police reported on the incident at the Chase bank branch on 1904 Guadalupe St. near MLK Boulevard just before 11 a.m.

AUSTIN, TX — Police were at the scene of a bank robbery at a Chase Bank branch near the University of Texas at Austin campus late Tuesday morning.

The branch is located at 1904 Guadalupe St., near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Police said hte incident just before 10:30 a.m. In a subsequent press conference, Officer Destiny Silva told reporters no injuries were reported. Citing the ongoing nature of the police investigation, the officer didn't specify whether the suspect displayed a weapon during the robbery.

Silva said the man exited the bank on foot after demanding cash and leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash. The officer described the suspect as a black man of around 35 years of age. No weight or height information was given, with Silva citing the preliminary nature of the investigation. The suspect was last seen wearing a baseball cap, light shirt and dark-colored pants, Silva added.

The bank branch that was hit is distinguished by its turn-of-the-century architecture from the last century. The branch is in close proximity to another, more updated, Chase Bank branch at 2414 Guadalupe St. (near the Space 24 food/retail pavilion) that also largely caters to UT-Austin students at the campus across the street.
