Privately Owned UT Austin Dormitory Getting Face Lift

Notable for being the first modern high rise just a few feet from campus, Dobie Twenty21 is undergoing a total revamping, officials said.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Renovation of Dobie Twenty21, the only private dormitory on the University of Texas at Austin campus, has been launched.

Trinity Property Consultants announced the revamping on Tuesday. The dorm is located at 2021 Guadalupe St. Notable for being the first modern high rise just a few feet from campus, Dobie was originally completed in 1972 as Dobie Mall, named after famed author J. Frank Dobie.

"With a rich history and generations of college co-eds, Dobie has evolved over the past 50 years to draw in students to the 27-story, 950,000-square foot tower and attract retail and restaurant tenants," officials said in a press advisory. "Most recently, the iconic dormitory has prioritized modernizing each studio and suite, enhancing the onsite amenities and improving resident experience and programming."

Trinity Property Consultants officials said they have taken immediate steps to revamp the building since its 2015 acquisition. Based on feedback from residents, officials said, updates include modernizing each studio and suite.

Already, the 5,000-square-foot dining hall has gotten a face lift, officials noted. Most recently, all four cooling towers were replaced to address air conditioning concerns, according to the company. Moreover, the management firm is prioritizing elevator upgrades to increase speed and enhance safety, officials said.

Additionally, the fitness center has been tripled in size to include state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment, making updates to the 11 study rooms and business center, placing new Apple and PC computers in the technology center, offering 24/7 package pickups, and sprucing up rooftop park ares that features an updated pool and hot tub, basketball court, indoor theater and pool with skyline views.

The dormitory houses primarily freshman and sophomore students, billing itself as being among the most affordable housing options in the market with a diverse mix of residents and an inclusive community, officials said.
