Rain In Forecast After Austin-Area Heat Advisories

After three straight days of heat indices as high as 114 degrees, the chance of rain emerges through the work week.

AUSTIN, TX — Texas weather, goes to show you. After three straight days of heat advisories culminating on Friday, rain is now in the forecast. And yet, those high temperatures in the 90s will continue to persist.

Saturday afternoon calls for a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The afternoon will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 92 degrees. Heat index values could make it feel as high as 102 degrees outside. South/southeast wind will be blowing at between 10 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.

That is a minimal chance, but the likelihood some parts of the region will see some precipitation will increase after that. By Saturday night, for example, the chance of precipitation grows to 30 percent before 1 a.m. The skies will remain mostly cloudy with a low of around 78 degrees. Gusts could reach 20 miles per hour.

Sunday is forecast to be virtually a carbon copy of Saturday, with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day only to diminish to 20 percent by nightfall. The high on Sunday is expected to reach a high near 92 degrees, with a heat index of 103 degrees and wind gusts possibly as high as 20 miles per hour.

By nightfall on Sunday, the chance of rain will grow to 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy with a low of around 76 degrees. Winds will blow from the south at around 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.

As the work week begins, the chance of rain will grow. According to NWS forecasters, Monday will bring a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms under mostly cloudy skies and a temp near 91 degrees. Those winds won't change much, blowing southerly at between 10 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour. Monday night calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Again, it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South/southeast winds will be blowing from 5 miles per hour to 10 miles per hour.
