Shwetha Ramanathan DDS Honored By Austin Oral Surgery -- Twice
Local Dentist Receives the Dr. James R. Fricke Jr. Mentoring Award For the Second Year in a Row

For the second consecutive year, Shwetha Ramanathan, DDS, a dentist with River Rock Dental in Austin, Texas, has been awarded the Dr. James R. Fricke Jr. Mentoring Award. Created in 2008 by Austin Oral Surgery, the award is given annually to a deserving dentist who has been in practice for less than five years. The award is a continuing education scholarship in honor of James R. Fricke Jr. DDS, MD – one of Austin Oral Surgery’s founders – and his “tireless pursuit of education.”
“Dr. Ramanathan is committed to providing patients with the highest levels of patient care and understands that continuing education is vital for that. We’re honored to recognize her with this award in memory of our friend and colleague, Dr. Fricke,” said Thomas S. Weil, DDS, MD, and president of Austin Oral Surgery. “Jim had a passion for life and learning, and he deeply cared about sharing his wisdom in dentistry with dentists like Dr. Ramanathan.”
Ramanathan earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and her DDS from Texas A&M University College of Dentistry. She is actively involved with the Academy of General Dentistry and the Capital Area Dental Society and volunteers with the Texas Mission of Mercy Inc., a mobile dental clinic that provides dental care to Texans with limited resources/access. She also created “Tooth Talks” with Austin's Casa Marianella, where she provides residents with dental care education.
