Sorek Barbershop & Menswear Opening In Austin

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Sorek Barbershop & Menswear — offering what's described as "an elevated experience" both sartorially and in grooming — is slated to open in East Austin next month.

The store is in the ground floor retail space of the new Arrive East Austin Hotel, 1813 E. 6th St. Sorek will provide an approachable, yet fresh and sophisticated, atmosphere that surpasses the trends of the traditional Prohibition-era barbershops that have seen a recent resurgence across the country, company officials said in a press advisory.

"The new concept hopes to offer a welcoming and elevated barber experience that is reminiscent of classic barbershops without guests having to feel as though they are going back in time," officials wrote. "In addition to numerous barber and hair styling options, the Sorek team has also decided to partner with some of today’s top natural hair products that focus on sustainability and are eco-friendly."

Sorek will also offer a variety of affordable, tailored clothing options, officials noted. "The goal is to provide well-made and ethically sourced custom-fit clothing ensuring customers will not have to sacrifice comfort for fashion," the advisory details. "Featuring a variety of made-to-measure clothing items with both custom fabrics and designs that include suits, blazers, t-shirts and so much more, the new storefront will soon offer local residents and travelers alike an entirely new shopping experience to help men create a curated style and their own unique fit."

The new store will also offer a highly curated selection of high-end accessories, such as jewelry and watches, as well as leather products, bags and more, with an emphasis on sourcing products from across Texas. Through these expanded offerings to patrons, Sorek will provide a personalized experience currently unequaled in the landscape of the men’s grooming service industry today not only in Austin but across the country, officials said.

Officials aim to make Sorek the one-stop-shop for the modern man in Austin, they said. Through the consolidation of personal grooming and styling services, as well as an overall elevation of traditional barbershop standards, Sorek will offer its customers a place where they can go to update their look without the need to visit multiple locations or suffering the crowds of shopping malls and department stores, officials added.

“I could not be more excited to soon launch the first-ever Sorek location in Texas," Sorek founder and owner Jason Gourd said in a prepared statement. "Since I first came up with the concept years ago, this project has evolved considerably but I’m thrilled to now share with the public our plans for the first location opening in Austin early next year."

Gourd suggested his background in Texas informed the stores array of sartorial and grooming accouterments: “Having grown up in Texas, I always considered Austin to be the capital-of-cool so to speak and believe that this city is a perfect breeding ground for Sorek and our future plans for expansion," he said. "I’m eager about the opportunities ahead, especially in having such an amazing group like Arrive Hotel showing support, while my talented team and I very much look forward to serving Austinites for many years to come!”

The 650-square-foot barbershop and retail storefront will be located at 1813 E. 6th St. adjacent to the Arrive East Austin Hotel and its Lefty’s Brick Bar, with an opening set for mid-December. This location is within the burgeoning East 6th Street neighborhood near downtown that's seen an explosion of growth in the past few years. The new space was designed and constructed by the Texas-based award-winning firm Baldridge Architects Offices.

Additionally, in an effort to introduce the new shop as well as showcase firsthand the barbershop’s team skills and menu of offerings, the Sorek team is planning to partner with several notable organizations to create a series of pop-up events across the city of Austin in the coming months.
