Start SXSW Week Off Frightfully With Horror Film 'The Ranger'

AUSTIN, TX — Walking the streets of downtown Austin late at night can be a bit scary. Not that it's not safe, mind you — particularly during SXSW with its bolstered police presence — but just in general: The darkened alleys; the sparse post-events crowds; the eerie silence; the haunting strains of music in the background wafting through the air reaching your ears with sound waves shifting through the atmosphere.

What better way to enhance that scary feeling than with a scary movie. Jenn Wexler's new horror film "The Ranger" will have its world premiere on Monday, March 12, at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz at 11:55 p.m. The film stars Chloe Levine (The Defenders), Granit Lahu (The Sinner), and Mr. Robot's Jeremy Holm, also known by "House of Cards" fans.

Here's the scary synopsis provided by the filmmakers: "When Chelsea and her friends get in trouble with the cops, they flee the city and go on the run. Fueled by a hallucinogenic drug called Echo, they hope to lay low-and get high-in an old family hideout in the woods. But Chelsea's got reservations about going back to nature and secrets she's not sharing with her friends. When a shot rings out, her past comes crashing back, and the punks find themselves pitted against the local authority- an unhinged park ranger with an axe to grind."

An "axe to grind." You know what they're saying.
