Strawberry Moon Hovers Across Texas And Beyond Tonight
It's a full moon, amber in hue, with the rare timing coinciding with the first official day of summer.

AUSTIN, TX -- When the moon hits your eye like a big berry pie, that's the Strawberry Moon. Tonight, you might want to look up at the sky tonight and gaze upon this rare sight.
The celestial orb takes on an amber glow (hence the strawberry descriptor) and will be lower than normal. What's more, its emergence on the first day of summer is exceedingly rare, making it more of a must-see; the last time of such timing came in 1967.
The folks at the Old Farmer's Almanac are especially excited about this heavenly development, and plan to live stream the event: "This June, 2016, the solstice and full Moon coincide—a rare event, indeed, that hasn’t happened in nearly 70 years," they write. "The event will be broadcast LIVE from Slooh’s observatory in the Canary Islands, and Almanac editors will co-host the event."

In short, this is the kind of stuff for which people at the Old Farmer's Almanac live. They also provide interesting background as to how it got its name.
"June’s Full Strawberry Moon got its name because the Algonquin tribes knew it as a signal to gather ripening fruit," Almanac writers explain. "It was often known as the Full Rose Moon in Europe and the Honey Moon.
