Suspect Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting In WilCo

A detective serving a warrant for family violence sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a struggle with the suspect.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — A Williamson County police detective and a suspect were injured in the aftermath of an officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon in Liberty Hill, officials said.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office on Twitter said a suspect attacked a detective attempting to serve a warrant for assault-family violence with strangulation along the 100 block of Augusta Place at around 3:20 p.m.

The detective reportedly fired his weapon, injuring the suspect who subsequently was in stable condition at an area hospital. The detective sustained non-life-threatening injuries sustained during a struggle with the suspect. The Williamson County sheriff later reported the detective ultimately was released from the hospital.

"Preliminary investigation shows that the suspect attacked a detective by choking and biting him while trying to serve a warrant," Sheriff Robert Chody wrote on Twitter. "The suspect was shot and transported to the hospital in stable condition."

It's unclear why the detective was serving the warrant alone, which is a breach from standard protocol.

Liberty Hill is a city in Williamson County with a population of about 2,433 as of 2018 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. At the 2010 census, the city's population numbered 967 people. The city is located just over 15 miles west of the county seat of Georgetown.
