Suspects In Statewide ATM Theft Ring Caught In Austin, Cedar Park

One 17-year-old and two men in their 20s are alleged to be involved in string of cash machine heists centered in Houston area.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin police and Williamson County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday arrested suspects linked to multiple theft of automated teller machines throughout the state.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Austin police said they arrested one of the suspects during a traffic stop at U.S. 183 and MoPac. Williamson County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested another pair of suspects earlier that morning in Cedar Park, police said.

One suspect is 17 years old while the other two are in their 20s, according to police. All now face felony charges, and are being held at the Williamson County Jail.

The local arrests come a week after Houston Police Department arrested a suspect in a string of ATM robberies in Houston and distributed surveillance camera images of other suspects wanted in the robberies.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo — who until recently was the chief of police in Austin — praised the local officers involved in the suspects' arrests in a tweet that included a shout-out to Austin Police Chief Brian Manley: "Proud of @houstonpolice team that just took down ATM robbery crew in Austin with help of @chief_manley team @Austin_Police & APD Air 1. We will pursue those that do our community harm wherever we need to with assistance of our Federal, State, County & municipal partners."
