Arrest Made In North Austin Fatal Shooting

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested pending murder charges in the shooting death of his wife over the weekend, police detailed on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday at around 9:36 p.m. along the 15000 block of Forum Avenue. A caller notified police two children ran to the caller's home saying their father had shot their mother, according to a police account.

The suspect, Demetrie Oneal Mann, 27, fled the scene after the shooting. Police and medics located the victim, Lekita Revete Hurd, 30, mortally wounded. Despite live-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene by 9:55 p.m.

As detectives spoke to witnesses in the shooting's aftermath, officials said, Mann returned to surrender to police. He was taken into custody before being transported to the Travis County Jail pending murder charges, according to a police press advisory. Police noted the couple's children are safe with family members.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police were dispatched to North Austin last Sunday amid reports of a suspicious death.

The Austin Police Department tweeted about the incident, writing that it occurred along the 15100 block of Forum Avenue. The advisory was posted on Twitter just before 11 p.m. on Sunday.

No further details were immediately released.
