(Patch Media)

Hi, friends and neighbors! It's a beautiful Wednesday morning in Austin and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in the community today.

Kick your feet up and grab your morning coffee while we dive into:

  • Two of Texas' most wanted fugitives were found in Austin.
  • A new building near Rainey Street is slated to become the new, tallest building in the state.
  • Restaurant closures, restaurant expansions, and much more ➡️

First, today's weather and allergy report:

☀️ High: 95 Low: 72. Mostly sunny.
🍃 Grass Pollen: low. Ragweed: moderate. Mold: low. Dust & Dander: extremely high.

Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) Two most wanted Texas fugitives have been captured in the Austin area – PHEW! Two of Texas' "10 Most Wanted" offenders are back in custody following their recent arrests: William Bird of Austin, and Nathan Bingham of Hutto. KXAN has more on this story here.

2) The new Waterline tower will take the crown of Austin and Texas' tallest building. Ground has officially broken for Austin's newest skyscraper being constructed at 98 Red River St. in downtown Austin. Austonia reports that the building will stand at 1,022 feet near the intersection of Waller Creek and Lady Bird Lake and is set to open in late 2026. Learn more about this project here at Austonia.

3) The City of Austin is seeking feedback on the proposed park for Rainey Street. Members of the community have an opportunity to have their voices heard and are invited to an upcoming meeting to discuss the park space planned for Rainey Street. KVUE reports that The Austin Parks and Recreation Department and the ESB-MACC Advisory Board are hosting a "plática" (community meeting) about the development at 64 Rainey St. The meeting will take place at the ESB-MACC Auditorium at 600 River St. from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 29.

Interested in attending? KVUE has more details on the upcoming meeting here.

4) Spooky season is right around the corner and Austin's House of Torment has been named among the top haunted attractions of 2022. KVUE reports that every year, the Haunted Attractions Association (HAA), the only official association in the haunted house industry, names its top attractions across the nation. To become designated, attractions must be recognized as a member of the HAA while also satisfying a list of criteria related to the mission of the group – to protect customers, promote haunted attractions and educate industry experts. Austin's very own "House of Torment" was included in their list of top attractions! The attraction officially launches its fall season this Saturday, Sept. 10. Head to KVUE to learn more.
