Tech Company Viridis Learning Expands Into Austin

Company recently expanded to Palo Alto, Calif. now establishing local corporate base plans to create 25 local jobs.

AUSTIN, TX – New York City-based startup Viridis Learning, a learning tech company, has relocated its headquarters to Austin, officials announced this week.

Founded in 2009, the company recently expanded to Palo Alto, California and is now establishing its corporate base to Austin. The company has raised $10 million in venture capital, most recently from Salesforce Ventures, the customer relationship management software provider, according to Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce officials.

"Viridis is committed to strengthening the Workforce bridge between colleges and employers," chamber officials said. "Ultimately striving to become the primary cloud-based platform that connects learners to internships, further education and gainful employment around the world; effectively closing the skills gap."

Viridis currently serves more than 25 college districts, including in excess of 70 college campuses and an employer network across the country of more than 50,000. In relocating to Austin, the company is seeking to hire 25 additional employees from the Austin area over the next 12 months, officials said.

“We are happy to welcome Viridis to Austin and excited about the good jobs the company is bringing to our community," Gilbert Zavala, vice president of education and talent development for the Austin Chamber, said. "We are also hopeful that the innovative approach Viridis is pursuing to match employers to job-seekers, and job-seekers to employers, based on their skills will connect more Austin residents to good jobs.”

Company officials said they are eager to work with Austin businesses and the higher education community to help connect job seekers to training and employment opportunities.

According to a previously released news advisory in June, Viridis officials said they raised nearly $7.5 million via Salesforce Ventures, Thayer Ventures and others. "These new investments will further empower Viridis to achieve its mission of expanding economic mobility around the world, ending the global skills gap, and leading in 21st century workforce development," officials said at the time.

The company uses data analytics to match students with employers. The address of the new Austin presence was not disclosed.

"Viridis Learning is a technology company at the nexus of data interoperability between education and employment," founder and CEO Felix W. Ortiz III said in June. "Viridis Learning will utilize the investment to continue expanding its Skill Passport Accountability Tracking solution adoption and will be opening up an office in Austin, Texas."
