🌱 Ten Receive 'KVUE 5 Who Care' Awards + New Moody Center Is Now Open

Here are the top stories today in Austin:
- Ten people were honored recently during the 34th annual KVUE 5 Who Care awards event. The awards were presented by KVUE, "along with partners ABC Home and Commercial Services and Henna Chevrolet." The honorees from different professions, ages and backgrounds were recognized for serving their communities by giving "their time and talents to help others." - "The Austin Humane Society and Austin Animal Center," along with "Texas A&M and the Texas Department of State Health Services" are conducting "a study on coronavirus in cats." The study is funded by "a $65,000 grant approved" on Thursday, April 21 by Austin City Council and is aimed "to determine if there are coronaviruses circulating or mutating among animals that could potentially pose a risk to humans." - The new Moody Center, which is now open in downtown Austin, "debuted to the public on Wednesday, April 20 with the first of two concerts by John Mayer." The "15,000-seat arena... which replaces the city's 42-year-old Frank C. Erwin Jr Center" cost $375 million and the "facilities include 44 suites, nearly 2,000 club seats, three premium clubs, 57 loge boxes and one super VIP club, the Moët & Chandon Impérial Lounge." The venue "named in honor of a $130 million grant from Texas-based charitable organization the Moody Foundation... promises to provide a 'world-class venue for top touring concerts and shows' in the self-styled live music capital of the world." - Summer is here before you know it, and if you're looking for a summer job, temporary lifeguard positions are available at Austin Parks and Recreation. "Lifeguards can now earn up to $1,250 in bonuses and summer camp staff can earn up to $750 in bonuses." The pay "starts at $15/hour for entry level positions" and is higher for those with experience.
