Here are the top stories in Austin today:
1) The University of Texas (UT) system officially halted any new diversity, equity and inclusion policies across all of its campuses. This decision comes after a statement from UT Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife, who felt "certain DEI efforts have strayed from the original intent to now imposing requirements and actions that, rightfully so, has raised the concerns of our policymakers around those efforts on campuses across our entire state." The Texas Tribune has more on this story here.
2) Neighbors: yesterday was our first 90-degree day of 2023! KXAN's weather officials reported that we typically don't break into the 90s until early April — wow!! Hopefully we don't have a brutal spring and summer ahead of us. KXAN has more on the historic winter heat here.
3) Tesla will move its global engineering headquarters from Austin back to California. Elon Musk shared this update yesterday during a joint press conference with California Governor Gavin Newsom. Musk didn't give a timeline for this relocation plan. Head to Community Impact for the full scoop.
4) One person was found dead after possibly falling off a cliff at the Barton Creek Greenbelt. ATCEMS received reports of an unconscious person on the trail, but they were pronounced dead on the scene. Learn more here at KXAN.
