The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Austin.

(Patch Media)

Hello, neighbors! Gabriela Couvillion here with a fresh issue of the Austin Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and hot. High: 96 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories today in Austin:

  1. On Monday, April 4, Pete Hansen — No. 7 Texas Baseball player — was "named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week." On Friday, April 1, "Hansen pitched eight innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 12 Sooners in Texas' 7-1 win" that night." After giving up a first inning run, Hansen did not allow a hit the next seven innings, allowing just three baserunners. Oklahoma hitters had a .080 batting average against Hansen as he picked up the victory." For more on this story, please visit: (TexasSports.com)
  2. If you miss Liberty Lunch, "one of Austin's most beloved music venues in the 1980s and'90s" that sold "to make way for new tech businesses," you can enjoy it once again for the day on Saturday, April 9, during the "I Still Miss Liberty Lunch." The family-friendly event will take place from noon-midnight at The Far-Out Lounge, located at 8504 S Congress Ave., and will feature great food, live music, a silent auction and more! The cost of admission is $10, and all proceeds after costs will go to the SIMS Foundation and HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers). For more details visit: (austin360)
  3. A new H-E-B store is being built at Country Road 163 and Highway 290 in southwest Austin on a 103,000-square-foot property that was purchased by the grocery chain in 2015, and it is expected to be completed in spring 2023. "The new store will preserve and celebrate the rich history of the iconic Nutty Brown Café & Amphitheatre, which closed down and moved to Round Rock in 2021, "by using building materials and showcase iconography and memorabilia from the iconic venue." Cathy Harm, H-E-B Group vice president of Central Texas, said, "We are proud to be a part of this community, and it's important to us that we do our part to preserve and showcase the heritage and history of such an iconic landmark." The store will also include a tribute wall at the entrance that will feature a mural "vintage photography and colorful iconography inspired by original signage such as the blue 'Welcome' awning and the Cowboy neon sign... to preserve and celebrate the venue's 70-year history."
