Texas-Based HEB Recalls Sliced Bread After Piece Of Rubber Fell Into The Mix

AUSTIN, TX — Officials at the San Antonio-based HEB grocery store chain have recalled several types of their sliced bread after discovering a bit of rubber got into the mix.

The recall is for the HEB and Hill Country brands of sandwich bread with a "best by" date of April 29 or earlier, company officials said.

This is a voluntary recall taken by the company in an abundance of caution. The voluntary recall involves the following products with the aforementioned "best by" dates:

• Hill Country Fare Thin
• Hill Country Fare Extra Thin
• Hill Country Fare Wheat
• H-E-B Extra Thin
• H-E-B Round Top White
• H-E-B Split Top White
• H-E-B Texas Toast
• H-E-B 100% Whole Wheat
• H-E-B Split Top Honey Wheat

“H-E-B, committed to the quality of its products, is voluntarily issuing a precautionary recall for H-E-B and Hill Country Fare sandwich bread with a best-by date of April 29 or earlier due to the possible presence of a single piece of rubber in the product," read a company statement on the recall notice posted on the company’s website and the Food and Drug Administration website. "This was an isolated incident."

Bread purchased in the San Antonio area, Rio Grande Valley, Laredo and Corpus Christi stores is not impacted by this recall, according to the notice.

Customers who purchased any of the affected products should not consume the bread but return it to the store for a full refund, officials said. For questions call the HEB Customer Service line at 1-855-432-4438.
