Texas Coronavirus: Cases Near 48K, Deaths Reach 1,336

AUSTIN, TX — For the first time in 10 days, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Texas increased by less than 1,000 on Sunday.

Instead, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services reported 785 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the state's total to 47,784.

As of Sunday a total of 1,336 people have died from the illness.

Coronavirus-related illnesses in Texas are reported on a dashboard that is updated daily. Statistics show the state has now conducted a total of 693,276 tests and 27,570 patients have recovered from the virus.

According to the state's statistical dashboard, the highest rates of illness as of Sunday were in the following counties:

• Harris County: 9,126 cases
• Dallas County: 7,250 cases
• Tarrant County: 4,350 cases
• Travis County: 2,425 cases
• Potter County: 2,129 cases
• Bexas County: 2,120 cases
• El Paso County: 1,726 cases
• Fort Bend County: 1,558 cases

Despite cumulative increases in illness, few states are rebooting quicker than Texas, where stay-at-home orders expired May 1. The first phase of the reopening began with restaurants, malls and movie theaters, with operators directed to keep occupancy levels at 25 percent.

More businesses, including gyms, are slated to reopen Monday.
