Texas Lawmakers To Celebrate Mexican Independence Day

AUSTIN, TX — Lawmakers are scheduled to gather at the state Capitol to celebrate Diez y seis, Mexican Independence Day, on Monday.

Rep. Eddie Rodriguez and Sen. Kirk Watson will spearhead the gathering at the Texas Capitol Rotunda starting at noon. Featured will be an official re-enactment of El Grito, or the cry of liberty, by the Hon. Pablo Marentes Gonzalez, the consul general of Mexico.

Also on tap will be performances by the Crockett High School Mariachi, Austin High School Ballet Folklorico, and Danza Azteca Guadalupana.
