Three Homeownership Assistance Programs No One Has Ever Told You About

These types of programs do not advertise to the mass public and you would never know they existed unless you were told or did your research.

There are several private organizations, as well as government entities, that facilitate programs geared towards providing assistance to homeowners, as well as to first-time home buyers. The problem is, however, no one knows about them. These types of programs do not advertise to the mass public, and you would never know they existed unless you were told, or did your own research. This is one of the reasons that it is imperative to have someone to guide you through the entire process of buying or selling a home. Here, we will highlight a few of these programs, as recommended by Austin, Texas realtor Isaac Strycker.

#1: Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC)
TSAHC provides down payment assistance to homebuyers, helps developers build affordable housing, and helps homeowners prevent foreclosure. According to their website, they help people in the Austin and Central Texas area, and throughout the rest of the state, purchase a home. They are a nonprofit organization that was created by the Texas Legislature to help Texans achieve their dream of homeownership. To be eligible for their programs, you must have a credit score of 620 and meet certain income requirements.

#2: austintexas.gov - Down Payment Loan Assistance
Income-eligible first-time homebuyers may qualify for down payment assistance. You will have to complete homebuyer education classes to learn more about the home buying process before you're eligible for assistance. The program covers down payment and closing costs, including prepaid expenses associated with home buying. Homebuyers may qualify for up to $40,000 in assistance. Note: Sales price of the home cannot exceed $525,350.

#3: SETH 5 Star Texas Advantage Forgivable Lien
The 5 Star Texas Advantage Forgivable Lien provides down payment assistance in the form of a community second lien which is forgiven after three years, provided you do not sell or refinance the home in that time. It is classified as a forgivable loan and sponsored by the Southeast Texas Housing Finance Corporation. It covers Up to 5% down payment, with no fixed maximum.
